helping Catholic women in abusive relationships grow in freedom and faith

Words for a Wife Betrayed (a poem)

Oh broken-hearted friend

all this suffering is not your fault!

You were deceived and abused—

your heart crushed by the one

whose job was to protect it.

This was not your fault:

you were deceived by a deceiver

blinded by one whose profession

is to convince others

that he speaks the truth.

If ugliness turned aside from beauty

and selfishness from love

it only means his eyes and heart

were unable to perceive

the golden treasure he held in his hands.

Keep rising from the ashes

of this exhausting devastation.

Oh, precious one, warrior woman,

do not give up!

I am with you.

Lean on me—

even just a little.

Allow me to do what he cannot—

let me love you always

Forever.
